The community number
The dealer puts in their own annual sales and gets one figure: what stayed in
their town last year. It is the number they walk into the chamber of commerce with, and it is
what makes the local-PR activation possible — without it, "pitch the local paper" is an ask with
no story attached.
How to run it
- Do not open with the tool. Open with what the campaign is for — the customer
who is about to compare you to a screen. The number is the evidence, not the argument.
- Let them type their own sales. Round is fine. The moment you supply the figure
it becomes your number and they stop defending it — same rule as the Ghost Home Recovery
conversation.
- Read the sentence out loud. The tool writes one for them, with their figure,
their headcount and their years in the town in it. That sentence is the deliverable. It goes
in the local paper, on the receipt, in the window.
- Then open the activation plan. Their card has the twelve things that count as
running this campaign. The number you just built is what makes the local-PR item
pitch — something a dealer can actually do on Monday.
- Hand it back. Print gives them a page with their own figure. Copy a link sends
them the filled-in version — read the note below first.
Four things to get right
- State the bound before they find it. The same CFIB research says 92% of Canadians
love having small businesses around and 13% actually shop at one. Buy-local is a
tiebreaker, not a price umbrella. It is on the page deliberately. A staff member who
is told this argument wins price fights will lose one in front of a customer.
- It is a published survey figure, not an audit of their books. Say CFIB by name. We
are not claiming to have measured their store, and the page does not either.
- Do not promise a result. This campaign has no coupon and no redemption, so there is
no sales number to attribute to it. What we can count is what they install. Saying that
yourself, before they ask, is worth more than any number here.
- The link carries their revenue. Copy a link puts their figures after the #.
A fragment never reaches a server, so nothing comes to us — but the moment it is pasted into
an email their sales are in that message. Send it to the dealer, not about them.
One number, three ways
The FY2027 offer rule for this campaign is window, invoice, point of
sale, and BBI owes the dealer "the story, three ways". The window shipped: poster, counter
card, dangler. The invoice and the point of sale have not. Until they do, say so plainly to a
dealer rather than implying a kit exists — and record what they install on their card either
way, because the dealers who run this on their own receipts are the ones we need to learn
from.
The tool
To send a dealer the blank tool, this is the address:
https://bbi-community-impact.netlify.app/
To send one with their figures already in it, build it with them and use Copy a link at
the bottom of the tool itself.
Below is the live tool, exactly as a dealer sees it — the same page, not a
copy. On a phone, or when you want the print dialog, open it in its own tab.
